Long Covid
What it is Long Covid (post-COVID-19 condition) refers to symptoms that persist, recur, or appear after the initial acute SARS-CoV-2 infection. These symptoms can last weeks to months and sometimes longer, affecting people regardless of the severity of their initial illness, age, or prior health status.
Common symptoms
Fatigue and post-exertional malaise (worsening of symptoms after physical or mental activity)
Shortness of breath and chest discomfort
Cognitive symptoms (“brain fog”): memory problems, difficulty concentrating, slowed thinking
Sleep disturbances: insomnia, unrefreshing sleep
Joint and muscle pain
Headache
Palpitations, dizziness, and autonomic symptoms (e.g., lightheadedness on standing)
Persistent cough, altered smell or taste
Anxiety, depression, mood changes
Gastrointestinal symptoms: nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea
New or worsened diabetes, clotting issues, or other organ-specific problems in some cases
